Owners Story

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to include this at this website, but here goes… this is our story.

We have been coming to Maui for over 40 years. Both retired teachers, it seems that every adventure we’ve ever taken has been based on the ocean. We’ve snorkeled on almost every island in the Caribbean, cruised all over Alaska, and fished for salmon and halibut at home in Northern California.

No matter where our travels took us, we still kept coming back to Maui. It became a family joke — when my husband would ask what I wanted for a birthday or anniversary present, I’d always say that I wanted a condo in Maui. Staying at home during COVID, we both became obsessed with looking at Maui real estate online. What else was there to do?

Why did we buy here? We are not fans of high rise apartments. We like things on the “funky” slower side of Hawaiian living, where quiet time at the resort starts at 9pm. Having a place to bring our family and grandkids means everything to us. Seeing my 5-year-old grandson’s face when he saw his first REAL coconut on a tree will be something I always remember. Taking the family to a luau was the best thing ever, even if the grandkids wouldn’t try the poi or poke. I love leaning over the railing at the resort’s Keone Nui room and seeing turtles up close — sometimes they come up on the beach at night. Being able to see the occasional pod of spinner dolphins cruise by the condo, a rare visit of eagle rays in the bay or to see whales breaching in the distance during the winter months makes nature come alive. The west side of the island is IMO the best for snorkeling and there are so many great places to visit — always check the local snorkel report for safety. Below is a video of a turtle car wash (fish cleaning off turtles) just up the road at Kapalua Bay. Kahana Sunset fits our lifestyle and we truly hope you will enjoy your stay here.

Enjoy your vacation at our wonderful condo! Kahana Sunset truly is my happy place.
