About the Condo

Stairs

The condo floors are mostly tile with LVP stairs — this makes it so much cleaner than carpet and less maintenance.

Luxury plank vinyl was just installed on the stairs. Please do not bang suitcases on the stairs or try to roll them up/down the stairs.

Keep sand at the beach and not in the condo! Here are some helpful hints. There is an outdoor shower by the pool, especially useful if you’ve been swimming at the beach. In addition, there is a hose right outside of the C7 condo. Hopefully the sand brush hanging on the hook by the front door is still there so you can brush off outside — sometimes the housekeepers put it under the kitchen sink. Both the upstairs and downstairs have a broom for sweeping the floors. You might find it handy to sweep out the dry shower floor if sand is present — it helps avoid costly plumbing problems.

  • Cable is provided by Spectrum and includes several apps which are accessible on the Sony remote control. There are TV instructions in the living room and each bedroom as well as a list of available channels. Complimentary Netflix is available in the living room and master bedroom.
  • The condo has three split air conditioners in the living room and each bedroom. There are also ceiling fans throughout the unit. If you are leaving for the day, please help save electricity (it’s expensive!) by setting the A/C to 78 or turning the A/C off and using the ceiling fans.
  • The retractible awning on the downstairs lanai helps on hot days, but should not be left down overnight or when leaving the condo. Trade winds come up suddenly and can damage the awning. The remote for the awning is near the sliding glass door by the porch light switch.
  • One of the big kitchen drawers is reserved for non-perishable food. It’s been a constant battle with housecleaning staff to keep it empty, and is occasionally filled with storage containers.
  • Maui has bugs — it’s a tropical island! You help immensely by keeping the doors shut or using the lanai screen doors. Keep food supplies in plastic containers or in the refrigerator.
  • If you use the sofa bed, there is a video below which shows you how to fold it back up into the sofa after using the pullout bed. Management recommends not having sheets or blankets on the mattress when closing it into the couch unit.

What’s New

The owners are constantly improving their condo at Kahana Sunset and try to make it as comfortable as possible with the amenities of home. Being in Hawaii means that there is a constant battle against rust. Here are some of the recent major renovations:

  • 2021-2022: Installed split air-conditioning downstairs and in the two bedrooms. Remodeled the kitchen with stainless steel KitchenAid appliances. Bought new washer/dryer. Replaced all the TVs.
  • 2025: Installed a new refrigerator. Replaced the carpet with luxury plank vinyl which is so much cleaner and sanitary for guests. Replaced the water heater.
  • 2026: New plantation shutters on the windows in the living room and master bedroom.

Guestbook

Below are PDF excerpts of the Kahana Sunset C7 guestbook. You’ll find the owner guestbook in the condo in a small white binder and it contains lots of helpful information for your stay.

Using the Sofa Bed

Sometimes it’s tricky to put the sofa bed back after use. Here is a video featuring the sofa bed and my grandson after he slept on it.
